Professor Roman Zagórski is a Professor in the Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microfusion in Warsaw where he has been working since 1983. He is the leader of the Institute's theory and modelling group and his research activities are focused on numerical simulations of plasmas in tokamaks. Roman Zagórski obtained his PhD degree and habilitation in physics from the Institute of Nuclear Studies (now the National Centre for Nuclear Research) in Otwock in Poland in 1992 and 1999, respectively. Since 1986, he has investigated plasma transport in tokamak devices and has developed a number of numerical codes (EPIT, TECXY, COREDIV) which have been widely used to study plasma and impurity dynamics in tokamaks. Between 1991 and 1994, Roman Zagórski worked as a visiting scientist in ENEA-CRE Frascati, where he carried out numerical investigations of the FTU tokamak plasma. From 1997 he closely collaborated with the theoretical group of the Forschungszentrum Jülich in Germany. During that collaboration he extended the code TECXY in order to account for drift motions and currents as well as self-consistent radial electric fields. In the years 2001- 2007 he worked on the development of the 3D fluid code together with the theoretical group at IPP Greifswald , during this time describing the edge plasma in the W7-X stellarator. In 2008 he was appointed by EFDA SC as a member of the HPC-FF Board and he acted as the HPC Board secretary until 2011. Between 2008 and 2011, he was as the Plasma Wall Interactions Responsible Officer at the EFDA CSU Garching.
