Under the agreement, €750 million ($977million) will be provided ITER for 2012 and

€550 million ($717 million) for 2013. The EU took several months to secure its funding for the

two-year period, reportedly offsetting some of the funding by reducing agricultural subsidies.

The EU will fund 45% of ITER's estimated €16billion ($21 billion) construction costs, and has

reportedly previously called for more construction time to minimize technical risk.
