The scholarship holder will take part in the NCN SONATA-21 research project "Plasma state classification and abnormal event detection in nuclear fusion devices with Symmetrized Dot Pattern and Machine Learning applied to time series of tokamak plasma radiation measurements".
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the Regulations for awarding NCN scholarships in research projects funded by the National Science Centre, which are annexed to Resolution No 25/2024 of the NCN Council of 4 March 2024.
An applicant for the scholarship is expected to possess:
- Basic knowledge of plasma physics and fusion devices, in particular tokamaks.
- Practical knowledge of programming languages and IT tools used in data analysis (e.g. Matlab, Python, C++).
- Practical skills in database creation, data management and scientific programming.
- Knowledge of spoken and written English, enabling communication in an international team and familiarization with scientific literature.
IPPLM offers:
- The candidate will receive a scholarship of PLN 4,875 gross for a period of 12 months on the basis of the Scholarship Agreement.
- The project provides for visits and consultations at the WEST center in France and participation in scientific conferences.
- The work will take place in a team bringing together both experienced and young scientists (including PhD students).
- The participant will be able to improve their qualifications and develop scientifically.
- Scientific cooperation will be carried out in important scientific centers in Poland and abroad.

Possibility to start from 19 October 2026.
A person applying for the position of a scholarship holder should meet the following criteria:
- Student of second-cycle studies or long-cycle master's studies in physics or related fields carried out at universities in Poland.
- Enjoying full public rights.
- Knowledge of English to the extent that allows him to use professional literature and communicate in a professional environment.
- Basic knowledge in the field of physics, especially knowledge of plasma physics and its diagnostics is welcome.
- Knowledge of the programming languages that will be used to create and implement machine learning algorithms.
A person applying for a scholarship should submit the following documents and letters:
- A CV with a description of education, internships, scholarships, participation in research projects, a list of possible publications and conference speeches, and other scientific activity.
- Cover letter.
- A document confirming participation in second-cycle studies or participation in long-cycle master's studies.
- A personal questionnaire with a Statement of consent to the processing of personal data for recruitment purposes.
The selection will be made by the Scholarship Committee appointed by the Director of the Sylwester Kaliski Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microfusion composed of: two IPPLM employees indicated by the Project Manager with appropriate scientific or professional qualifications, and the Project Manager as the Chairman.

The Scholarship Committee may ask the scholarship applicant to submit additional materials concerning his/her qualifications and scientific achievements.
A scholarship applicant may submit to the Committee other additional materials attesting to qualifications, scientific achievements and information about interests not related to the research specified in the call notice.
Documents submitted by a person applying for a scholarship to the IPPLM will not be returned. The Committee reserves the right to contact selected persons.
